Poor levels of security screening x-ray equipment availability resulting in excessive queue times, repair costs and low levels of staff morale and customer experience.
To review and analyse the performance of equipment to understand root cause of failures using a Six Sigma/DMAIC approach.
The highest proportion of failures were found to be as a result of poor loading operations and screening curtain design. A new screening curtain arrangement was designed and a new staff training package developed and rolled out.
Equipment availability increased from 74% to 99.5% and repair costs were reduced by £12k pa per machine.
