Poor standards of housekeeping in airport toilets resulting in financial penalties (Service Quality Rebate – SQR) imposed by Airport Regulating Authorities

Task

To review and analyse reasons for poor housekeeping standards and develop audit and reporting process.

Action

Implementation of “5 S” (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardise, Sustain) Audit and reporting process with Roll Out Plan including training package

Result

  • Typical scores raised from 2.65 to 4.5 (max 5) thereby avoiding penalties of £17m pa.
  • Decreased operating costs due to effective staff deployment and stock control of £0.9m pa.
